1.Should paralympians receive equal treatment as olympians?
As what many of us knew, Singapore won its 1st silver olympic medal after 48 years.The medal was won by the s'pore table tennis women's team.Each of them will be getting a prize money of 20k.In addition, there was wide coverage on the players' background for days on the media. Some local even said that they were not born in Singapore,so the medals n glory hardly mean anything to them.Some feel that it was the country's glory. For a contigent of 23 atheletes, there was only 1 medal.And i bet many were like me, became fans of olympics games due to the live telecast of matches on tv.
Now, think again.The paralympics games wasn't given much coverage until some of the s'pore atheletes won medals. Glad that the media finally made some ammendments and broadcasted the opening ceremony and some matches on tv.Till so far,the paralympics games is still happening in Beijing, Team S'pore had already gotten 4 medals-2 bronzes,1 silver and 1 gold medal as of yesterday night and out of a contigent of 6. Its also the first time that S'pore won medals in the paralympics games. But look at the amount of media covergae-who can u really name and tell about his/her background? Look at the amount of difficulties,hardwork and obstacles they had and as well as the prize money they gotten after winning medals? The prize money was only 10k for a gold medal. Still, they were authentically born and made in S'pore. Is this the amount of recognition we should give them(paralympians)? Think again.
2.Food Safety.
a)Rats were falling from the celling of tampiness mac.(this was reported on the news)
b)Maggots were found in sauces-mac and it was the outlet nearest to my house.This was a chain email sent by the customer herself/himself.
c)Should i call it heartless or selfish? Poisoning in milk products produced in china had caused few deaths and hundreds diseased(at least) in china. (there was wide coverage on this for this few days)
As technology advances, are we focusing on techniques and gadgets? Or should we focus on the most basic thing of life first-food safety and consumers' safety?
